The Viking satellite

Viking was the first Swedish satellite. It was designed and equipped for investigation of the plasma physical acceleration and other processes in the transition region between hot and cold plasma on auroral latitude magnetic field lines.

Period of operation: February 22, 1986 - May 17, 1987
Orbit: Polar, 98.8 deg. inclination
Altitude: 817 km (perigee) - 13530 km (apogee)
