Welcome to
Digital Video Compression!

I hope you enjoy the book. From time to time you will find updates or additional related information at my web site, www.symes.tv

Please stop by some time, sign the guest book if you wish (it's always nice to know who has visited), and leave any comments you would like to make. In particular, there will inevitably be some errors left in the book.  If you find one, please let me know through the web site, and I'll publish corrections there, and try to incorporate them in a future printing.

This CD is intended to help you explore the concepts discussed in the book. You will find sample images, video and audio clips, and a range of applications to allow experimentation with different types of compression. This file, and its links, will describe the contents of the CD, and allow you to browse to the areas of interest.

Before you continue, please read the following:

All the applications on the CD have been tried, to the extent that they install and run without apparent harm on some version of 32-bit Windows®. (Most of the applications require a 32-bit environment. Some will operate with 32-bit extensions, Win32s, but most need Windows 98 or later.) The applications have NOT been tested under all versions of Windows; they may or may not work in your environment. If an application does not work for you, I suggest a visit to the referenced web site; there may be an alternative version available.

Everything on this CD has been scanned with a virus detector, using the latest data files available at the time of publication. However, this is not a guarantee of safety. It is possible that a virus exists that was not detected at this time. It is possible that an application may be harmful in some other way. YOU ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE OR CONSEQUENCE RESULTING FROM OR CONNECTED WITH THE INSTALLATION OR OPERATION OR USE OF ANY CONTENT OR APPLICATION ON THIS CD.

If this is not acceptable to you, DO NOT USE THE CD.

Also, in my experience it is not a good idea to have many different graphics and video programs installed at one time AND SOME OF THE PROGRAMS MAY BE INCOMPATIBLE WITH EACH OTHER, OR WITH OTHER PROGRAMS YOU HAVE INSTALLED.  I suggest you install a program, experiment with it and, unless it is one you wish to continue using, uninstall it when you are done.
