Proton ring distributions at comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko

One of the main influences on any comet's plasma environment is its heliocentric distance, causing the magnetosphere to completely change over the period of one orbit. The Rosetta mission enabled us to study this evolution at comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko over the course of two years. Among many other things, the interaction between the solar wind and the cometary ions have previously been analysed. In this study, we look at a case at a large heliocentric distance where the solar wind protons form partial ring distributions. Up until now, these distributions have only been observed much closer to the Sun.

The seminar is also online. See emails for connection details.
