Survey of sprite events with SMILES atmospheric composition observation

Sprites are lightning-induced secondary discharges appearing in the middle atmosphere. Both lateral and vertical scales are a few tens of kilometers, and 700 - 1000 events occur in a day in the global. Several model study pointed out a change of atmospheric compositions induced by sprite discharges in the middle atmosphere.
We survey the change of the amount of atmospheric compositions using two satellite observations, superconducting Submillimeter-Wave Limb Emission Sounder (SMILES), and Imager of Sprites and Upper Atmospheric Lightning (ISUAL).
SMILES line of sight passed through the ISUAL large sprite detection for the three cases. Intensity of HO2 spectrum was enhanced and the amount of the HO2 enhancements were about 10-20 times than background. In Kiruna, we plan to develope non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (non-LTE) model in ARTS (Atmospheric Radiative Transfer Simulator) model for THz region. This may useful not only for the radiative transfer calculation of Earth's upper atmosphere but also planetary atmosphere such as Mars and Jupiter icy moon for JUICE/SWI.
