On small, smaller and smallest satellites - from toys to tools?

Small satellites are an important element of space activities since the beginning of the space age and the 40th anniversary of academic small satellites was just celebrated. Nowadays small satellites make up the largest portion of annually launched spacecraft - contributing to research, commercialisation and governmental activities in Earth orbit as well as in the foreseeable future increasingly to deep space exploration. What are the possibilities using small satellites in such missions, what are the major concepts using small satellites and what are some lessons learned from the first decades of small satellite activities?

The seminar is also online. See emails for connection details.
