Abstract
The Curiosity rover of the Mars Science Laboratory Mission has investigated the geology, mineralogy, and the atmosphere of Mars in the rover’s Gale Crater landing site. By fitting the various pieces of puzzles from these seemingly diverse fields, tantalizing clues of an ancient habitable environment capable of sustaining microbial life are emerging. I’ll present the relevant observations and discuss Curiosity’s next big challenge – exploration of Mount Sharp at the center of Gale Crater.
