Abstract
The Advanced Modular Incoherent Scatter Radar (AMISR) is the newest of the
World's ISRs operating at this time. AMISR is a high peak power (~2
MW) phased array system utilizing solid state technologies throughout and
providing rapid steering for probing the ionospheric plasma. The first
AMISR face came on line at the Poker Flat Research Range in central Alaska
in early 2007 and has been operating nearly continuously since that time.

In this talk we will discuss some of the technical aspects of that system,
including several of the tradeoffs that went into the final configuration.
Special emphasis will be placed on issues related to system-level
calibration and on the antenna design. We will also talk about several
of the recent scientific measurements from that system.
