Samuel Beckett (1906-1989), Irish novelist, dramatist and poet, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1969 "for his writing, in which - in new forms for the novel and drama - the destitution of modern man acquires its elevation". He is best known for the play En attendant Godot (1952) (Waiting for Godot/I väntan på Godot).
