Abstract:
A shock aurora, triggered by the solar wind shock, propagates anti-sunward from noon with geomagnetic sudden commencement (SC) signatures. On 26 February 2023, right after the SC onset was detected at 19:24 UT while SYM-H was nearly zero, ground-based cameras, including a high-resolution one, captured a shock aurora in the evening auroral zone. For this event, three types of auroral forms have been identified without substorm-like activities: intensification of the pre-existing arc, a red diffuse aurora, and secondary green discrete arcs. Each auroral form has a corresponding counterpart in dayside cases. However, their temporal development differed from previous reports, particularly for the secondary arcs. Geomagnetic data indicated an upward field-aligned current developing where the secondary arcs are located, with a peak time four minutes before the arc's appearance.
