Jonathan Ledgard is a Shetland Islands-born novelist and a leading thinker on advanced technology, political risk, and nature - especially in emerging economies. His novels Giraffe and Submergence were both New York Times Books of the Year and have been developed by Hollywood. Jonathan was for two decades a foreign and war correspondent for The Economist, reporting lead stories from 60 countries and many conflicts including a decade as Africa correspondent. In 2012, he left journalism to become a director at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL). His futuristic projects since then in AI and robotics include drone delivery of blood and medicine in the tropics and new ways of financing conservation through "Interspecies Money".
