Characterization of cirrus clouds

Cirrus ice-clouds influences Earth’s radiative budget in a way, that is not fully understood yet. This is especially true for the arctic environment, where changes can be observed with a fast pace. Properties of these high altitude, often thin clouds can be measured by space-borne and land based LIDAR measurements. To support these observations, the use of a Balloon-borne Ice particle Imager (B-ICI) is used in parallel with the LIDAR to retrieve in-situ data and determine lidar-ratio, thus support and validate the upcoming EarthCARE mission.

The seminar is also online. See emails for connection details.
