Abstract
JAXA has interests in a small-size, multi-scale, formation-flying, magnetospheric exploration mission. This requires various hardware developments, particularly as the budget for such a mission has become significantly reduced.
Specifically, we are developing techniques to enable both electrons and ions to be measured in a single top hat instrument, using a single MCP, via secondary electron emission processes. This project has necessitated the development of a broad-beam, UV-stimulated, photo-electron source which will also be discussed.
