Abstract
Investigating a single dust grain evolution under controlled conditions in a laboratory is an unique way to understanding the behavior of dust grains in complex plasma both in space and in the laboratory or in technological applications. An electrodynamic trap can be utilized for both holding a single charged grain and continuously precise measuring its charge-to-mass ratio.
In this paper, I resume possibilities, limits, and ongoing enhancement of the Prague quadrupole traps and summarize our observations and related calculations. Beside various charging/discharging processes I also concern on a dust grain sputtering, diffusion of implanted atoms, and transparent grain heating up by particle beams.
