Abstract
While most of the scientific studies concerning meteor observations with the present EISCAT facilities have been accomplished, there still exist a few parameters that can be solved with new measuments. A summary of the finished and present work as well as still coming work will be given. One of the most exciting studies for the moment is incoherent scatter signatures from heavy ions in meteor trails. A speculative analysis of how a future EISCAT_3D radar with the present design parameters would improve or change the role of EISCAT in meteor studies and how these could be related to other science applications is given.
