In this talk I will give a brief overview of the concept of phase transitions. An introduction to computer simulation techniques is given. Concepts of corelation length, scaling exponents and universality classes are presented. The Ising model is used to demonstrate these concepts. If time permits a short introduction to computer simulations on Helium in porous media is given.
