Fine scale auroras and sprites seen by the Reimei satellite

Abstract
The Reimei is the Japanese small-scale scientific satellite launched successfully in 2005 into a sun-synchronous polar orbit at an altitude of 640 km. Reimei carries the electron and ion sensors measuring auroral particles in the energy range from 10 to 12000 eV with a time resolution of 40-ms. In addition, the 3-CCD imager measures simultaneous auroral monochromatic images at N2+ 1N(428 nm), OI (558nm) and N2 1P (650nm) with 1-km spatial resolution and 120-ms time resolution. Using these
simultaneous image-particle data, we have investigated the fine-scale dynamics of discrete and Alfvenic auroras, the generation process of pulsating aurora, and substorm onset in conjunction with THEMIS satellites. We also found the Sprite events in the data obtained at the mid-latitudes. In this talk, I will present some intriguing events obtained by Reimei.
