Abstract.
Data assimilation is introduced. It is then shown how data assimilation can
"add value" to observations and models. Examples are provided, including
Numerical Weather Prediction. Finally, future directions in the use of data
assimilation are outlined.
This seminar will introduce the elements of data assimilation: observations,
model (and their errors), and data assimilation algorithm. These elements
will be discussed in more detail in the two 45 minute lectures.
