EISCAT observations of ionospheric effects of space weather events

Abstract.
In this talk I will introduce EISCAT and the incoherent scatter radar
method in general. Thereafter a few case studies of extreme
space-weather-related events, such as solar X-ray flares and energetic
particle precipitation, will be shown and discussed, comparing EISCAT
measurements and ionospheric model results.
The results from these case studies emphasize the need for
multi-instrument observations with good spatial and temporal
coverage. I will thus conclude the talk by giving a brief introduction
to the future EISCAT_3D system.
