Abstract
Transient events such as solar proton events, aurora, sprites and
solar flares affect the composition of the middle atmosphere through
coupled positive ion - negative ion - neutral chemical reactions. The
comprehensive Sodankylä coupled Ion-neutral Chemistry model (SIC) has
been developed for studying such interactions during short-lived
events of excess ionisation and dissociation of atmospheric
constituents. This seminar will introduce the model and review
published model predictions and comparisons with observations.
