AURORAL TOMOGRAPHY

Tomography ( from greek: tomos cut, slice ) is a the methods to determine inner structure from measurements made from the outside.

One of the main purposes with ALIS is to determine the full 3D spatial structure of the aurora This is not possible to do with measurements from one single station and that is the main reason for us to develop ALIS as a multistation system that provides us with images of the aurora from several possitions, as many stations as possible with as good coverage of the norhtern scandinavia as possible - to get images of the aurora from all possible directions.

Contents A sligtly more comprehensive description on tomography for auroral work is given in my PhD thesis.
