MARA – Moveable atmospheric radar for Antarctica



MARA is deployed and operated by:
The Polar Atmospheric Research Programme at the Swedish Institute of Space Physics
and the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat
during summer campaigns at Wasa/ Aboa (73° 03' S, 13° 25’ W), 2007 - 2011,
at Troll (72° 00' S, 2° 32' W) November 2011 - 2013
and at Maitri (70° 43' S, 11° 44' E) February 2014 onwards.

Funded by Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (Sweden)
hardware constructed by Genesis Software Pty (Australia)
logistical support from the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat.

Scientific Applications: Waves and Aerosol Particles in the Antarctic Mesosphere, Dynamics, Mountain Waves and turbulence in the troposphere and lower stratosphere.
