Abstract
Great progress has been made over the last few years in the development of
FIR/Sub-mm detector arrays. These offer many new possibilities for novel
instrument capabilities, and significant simplification and performance
enhancement. I will give an overview of the various technologies, and their
advantages and disadvantages.
Discrete hot electron bolometer detectors have been employed in an
aircraft-based cirrus cloud experiment called CILCO. I will give a summary
of the CILCO experiment, and then discuss how CILCO could be enhanced by
employing arrays of sub-mm detectors.
