With BepiColombo to Mercury

BepiColombo is Europe's first mission to Mercury. It was launched on
01:45:28 GMT on 20 October 2018 from Kourou. The mission consists of two
spacecraft, the European Mercury Planetary Orbiter (MPO) and the
Japanese Mercury Magnetospheric Orbiter (MMO). The spacecraft will
arrive at Mercury late 2025 and will orbit the planet for at least one
year. IRF is part of BepiColombo with three instruments, one on MPO and
two on MMO. On MPO, IRF is part of the SERENA instrument package with
its Miniature Ion precipitation Analyzer MIPA. For MMO, IRF built the
Energetic Neutrals Analyzer (ENA) that is part of the Mercury
Plasma/Particle Experiment (MPPE). IRF contributed also to the Mercury
Electric Field In Situ TOol (MEFISTO), which is part of the Japanese
Mercury Plasma Wave Instrument (PWI). The presentation will focus on the
two instruments built in Kiruna, MIPA and ENA, describe their objectives
and the challenges during their development.
