How to calibrate a particle instrument
or
Miniature Ion Precipitation Analyzer flight spare calibration

Currently the flight spare model of the Miniature Ion Precipitation Analyzer (MIPA) is being calibrated in IRF-Kiruna's calibration facility. MIPA is a particle instrument measuring positive ions in an energy range from 10eV/q to 15keV/q with ~7% energy resolution. Coarse mass resolution is provided by a time-of-flight cell. The field of view covers a bit less than one hemisphere. One set of measurements covering all energies and directions is obtained in 20s.
We present the instrument and the methods used to calibrate the instrument under laboratory conditions.
