Short facts about the IRF Space Simulator
Photo: Torbjörn Lövgren, IRF
- The IRF Space Simulator was purchased in 1991
- The internal diameter is 1230 mm and length is 1300
mm
- The copper table for DUT (Device Under Test) is 700
mm wide and 1200 mm long with M5 holes at 76mm C-C
- The following vacuum feed troughs (f.t.) are
available on the movable table for simultaneous use by
DUT:
- 3 x NW 32
- 1 x ISO100
- 1 x ISO160 (on tank)
- 1 x ISO250
- Adapters are available for CF40, CF63 and
DN10-KF
- The following vacuum connector flanges with
connectors on both sides are available for use by DUT:
- ISO100 with 20 x SMA female-female f.t.
- ISO100 with 3 ext. MS3449H22-55P f.t. connected to
3 int. MS3470W22-55S
- ISO160 with 50 x SMA female-female f.t.
- ISO160 with 1 ext. MS3449H22C-55P f.t. connected
to 1 int. DD50P plus 2 x Lemo SWH.00 f.t.
- ISO160 with 1 ext. MS3449H18-32P f.t. connected to
1 int. DC37S and 4 x Lemo ERA1S408CLL E46 (8 kVDC)
f.t.
- ISO250 with 10 ext. MS3449H22C-55P f.t. connected
to 10 int. MS3470W22-55S plus 10 x SMA female-female
f.t.
- ISO250 with 2 ext. MS3449H22C-55P f.t. and 4 x MHV
(HV BNC) f.t.
- MS3449 connectors comply with MIL-C-26482 ser. 2
- Pumping time is normally <1 hour to
10-5 mbar at +20° C but depends on
outgassing from DUT
- Temperature gradient is ±1° C/min
- Pressure is <10-6 mbar at +90°
C
- Oil temperature control system for table and shrouds
and N2 system for shrouds
- The oil temperature control can independently set
temperatures in the range -35° C to +90° C of
table and shrouds, either under manual or PLC
control
- Shrouds can be cooled to -160° C but without
circulation of oil in table, i.e. no control of table
temperature
- Additional programmable temperature regulation system
is available for DUT
- Solar constant system composed of 4 quartz lamps with
spectral properties simulating the sun. Variable
irradiance from 0-1350 W/m2 within 400 x 400
mm area and 0-1310 W/m2 within 500 x 500
mm
- System and DUT temperatures are measured with Pt100
sensors
- Vacuum performance better than 10-6mbar at
+25° C and better than 10-5 at +90°
C
- PC/Windows based data logging system with 24
channels. Twelve channels monitor the chamber
temperatures, one the chamber vacuum and eleven are
available for monitoring the DUT
- Vacuum chamber can be backfilled with either filtered
air or N2
- N2 plant with 10 l/h production rate and
3.5 m3 storage tank
